The heart shaped tree I painted called Deep Rooted is the perfect vision of a metaphor for my life. A large tree sitting in a meadow drinking from a stream of living water. Big strong roots growing down into the earth not only to anchor the tree but to intertwine with the roots of other trees for support through the tornados of life. The sun is both rising and setting on a day with the colors of a rainbow just like the one God used to make a covenant with Noah. The Fruit of the Spirit blossoms into the living fruit that Jesus provides for substance in my daily life. Weathered with time the bark itself resembles the cruciform Jesus. His Holy Spirit is part of the rhythms of my daily life coming out of the darkness bringing heaven to earth. And all of it comes from scripture!

As a disciple of Jesus, He uses the word root as in a way to be rooted in Him. Here are thirty deeply rooted versus that I found to help me grow in Christ:

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.

And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. ...

That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled.

But when the sun rose, they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away.

Yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.

Rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away.

If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

In that day the root of Jesse, who shall stand as a signal for the peoples—of him shall the nations inquire, and his resting place shall be glorious.

“Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars and who was as strong as the oaks; I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath.

It was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches; for its roots went down to abundant waters.

But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree,

Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”

“Say, Thus says the Lord God: Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers, so that all its fresh sprouting leaves wither? It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it from its roots.

There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.

And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward.

“And there was another great eagle with great wings and much plumage, and behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and shot forth its branches toward him from the bed where it was planted, that he might water it.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

The question now is,“when you face Satan and deaths demise are you deep rooted in God’s love or are you swayed by Satan’s deceit? Start with growing your roots with an understanding of what they are. What I will call my rules of life. Then I find the rhythms that will keep me connected to Jesus every moment of everyday for the rest of my life. My first rhythm is to listen to His Word daily thru either music, daily prayer, books, writing, painting or quit time with Jesus. The next is to nourish and live out the Fruit of the Spirit which is what grows deep and strong roots. The last rhythm is sharing with everyone the juicy fruit of the spirit that God blesses me with that I call my deep rooted paintings.
