I'm still reflecting on 2020, looking at what an amazing year it was for me. So amazing that I had to write down who Jesus is and what He tells me as the the King of my life. Not the president nor the prime minister. Not even the queen of England. He's KING-Immanuel--God is with us! He's Jesus Christ. If He walked on the Earth today as He did over 2000 years ago faced with a pandemic spreading across the land, racial unrest and an attack on the U.S. Capital, I asked myself what would Jesus do?
King of Kings.
As King, Jesus shows us that our battle is with Satan and sin--not each other. Teaches us to pick up His Word and study it daily so that when the tough times come, such as pandemic and social injustice, we can ask ourselves the question “what would Jesus do?”
I think that He would start with doing nothing. “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger." James 1:19, ESV
He wouldn’t discriminate. “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26-27, ESV
He would tell us that no one sin is greater than another and to love the sinner and hate the sin whereby we are all sinners saved by His grace.
He would teach all men how to be loving fathers taking care of each and every child on His planet.
He would support a new political party neither right nor left. It is the party of His Kingdom Come!
He would equip us with His suit of armor.
He would have the power of love not the love for power in His heart.
He would speak the absolute truth and then offer it to others.
He would warn us as our good friend about the evils of drinking and drugs.
He would like to see people stop using guns and resisting arrest, or better yet, stop doing the things that lead to an arrest.
He would ask that we not rob and shoot each other, especially His precious children.
He would find loving homes for unborn children, notably those of teenage mothers.
He would wear a mask while respecting others’ space and choices.
He would live and lead with His Word. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Read full chapter Galatians 5:22-23, ESV
He would “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, and cast out demons. We received without paying, so give without pay.” Matthew 10:8, ESV
He would believe in religious freedom. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34, NIV He commanded us to love people of other faiths--not just Christians!
He would wash the feet of His disciples to show that He came to serve not to be served.
He would offer forgiveness so that we can be forgiven. “Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends." Proverbs 7:19, NLT
He would teach us how to respect and LOVE all our neighbors-black or white, gay or straight--just as Mr. Rogers did.
He would show us how to respect existence by valuing all life.
Black Lives Matter – There are 300 deaths/year at the hands of the police with some killed unjustly.
Children's Lives Matter – 1500 deaths/year are children - some gunned down on their own street corner.
Unborn Lives Matter – 600,000 abortions/year where children are denied life!
Curable Lives Matters – 1.5 million deaths/year are preventable diseases that can be cured. Unlike COVID-19, we have the know how to save lives but still we do little or nothing to do so.
People with Mental Illness Lives Matter - 8 million deaths/year could be averted if people with mental illness were to die at the same rate as the general population.
Hungry Lives Matter – 9 million deaths/year are due to hunger and hunger-related illnesses.
Yes, All Lives Matter!- And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
He would show us love not hate no matter how we are persecuted.
He would protest peacefully and educate people about social injustice by calling out hate and hypocrisy while showing love not violence.
He would challenge the self-righteous no matter their position of power.
He would use scripture and the parables in it to bring people to an understanding of His Kingdom.
He would restore our souls.
Last and most importantly, He would tell us as in John 3:16, ESV what really matters for our lives: “For God so loved the world,[a]that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." He died so that everyone yes, EVERYONE would have everlasting life with Him and for me THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.
"They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings--and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers. " Revelation 17:14, NIV
Jesus is our Prince of Peace and King of Kings!
